Abstract

Baby schema effect is found among cross species infants in order to incite the older creature to nurture them. There are different results between several studies on baby schema effect to visual attention among human. Some studies have found that baby schema affects visual attention among respondents. But others studies found that there is no significant improvement in visual attention after being exposed by baby schema. Visual attention is needed to be improved among university students in order to comprehend their learning process. Therefore, this study was conducted among 80 university students, divided into two groups, each group consists of 40 students 20 males and 20 females. Experimental groups would be exposed by kittens and puppies picture for one and half minute after finishing a visual searching task and before finishing another series of visual searching task, while controlled groups would only take a one and half minute break without any exposure to kittens and puppies picture between both visual searching tasks. Non parametric test was used to analyze the data as the data distribution was not normal. The study found that there is no significant difference between two groups. The researcher also conducted additional analysis to found if there any significant differences of attitude toward cats and dogs that may affect the result of baby schema effect. The experimental group has more positive attitude toward cats and dogs than the controlled group. It is concluded that even with more positive attitude toward cats and dogs, visual attention wouldn’t be affected significantly by baby schema. There is also no significant difference between visual attention on two sexes among experimental group.
